Scooter Funk

We've had some beautiful days this week and I have not ridden even once. Not since my last post about riding on my "ride that refreshes".

It's not that I haven't thought about riding. I look at the scooter and think I will ride that day. But then I don't. I just don't feel like it in the morning, in the afternoon, or later in the evening. All times that I "say" I will ride, that I will get around to doing it. But I don't.

Have I been too busy to ride? No. I've had time. I just don't do it. I feel sad or guilty or frustrated that I don't do it. But I STILL don't do it.

I am "in a funk" about riding...don't know what it is. Oh, well...

  1. Hummm. Maybe you are in a holding pattern. These moods pass. It could be barometric pressure...or something happened that made you feel something that has affected your desire to ride. It will come back. You might just be sifting....

  3. Deb,

When you are in a non-riding funk & don't feel like it, there is probably a reason. Listen to your inner voice. I insured my scooter but I am not at all excited or thrilled about riding it. There is no fix in sight for my bike and I just don't have the soother love I once did. Maybe after I ride Vixen for a day or two I might change my mind, but not likely. I was so bummed out today because all of my riding girlfriends have been out all weekend going to places my soother can't. Sigh.

    1. Dar-Ahhh..:=( I'm thinking of you and know you are absolutely frustrated right now! I felt that way in 2009 when for 9 months I had no ride myself. I am still scrounging along but coming up with zip on that part. What is it about THAT part? I am hoping that someone will find it so Miss Scarlet can get going again! Me, I am missing my Ruckus terribly and have a bit of "buyer's remorse". I know that might seem weird as the Ruck was only a 49cc, but something about that particular scooter speaks to my soul. The Elite is awesome too. I think I just may have to start up a "Ruckus fund" in a jar on the shelf and plan up for a used one. Is selling Vixen and Scarlet to get another bike or scoot an option for this season? Good vibes your way and if I "strike CDI box" I will email you right away! Hang in, girlfriend...

I think once the Ruckus gets in your blood it stays there. As for selling Scarlet that isn't going to happen until she is running. When she is running I am selling the scooter and may sell Scarlet too, I am just not feeling any of it anymore. Maybe able to get a CDI from Czechoslavakia, apparently there is an obscure company over there who makes them. BTW 'soother' should have been scooter - stupid spell check changed it twice! Ugggh.

Hopefully we will both be feeling the 'love' again soon. Hang in!

    3. I would hate to think that you are implying that you would give up riding. I hope not! You are such an inspiration to others and let's face it, you were "born to ride"!!!

Glad you all found a part! Once Scarlet is up and running you will feel that old special pa-zazz!

    4. Deb,

I think I just need a vacation and am feeling commute weary. I actually thought about giving up riding completely and getting a bus pass. I love riding, but have also had a few "what the heck are you thinking" moments too. I think if I was going to ride a scooter for urban commuting it would definitely need to be bigger and with more cc's. After having ridden a bike with more cc's it is hard to go back to less, more so because of safety (acceleration) and bigger road presence. I think once I get my bike back I may just appreciate Vixen again for a different type of moto roaming.

    5. I would think that commuting would be exhausting with all that need for "hyper vigilance". I had begun to think I wanted to ride "with the big dogs" and since that means riding among distracted, fast moving automobiles, I have let go of that ambition. I am happier on the back roads riding as far away from cars and trucks as I can. I can see why you'd feel safer on a bigger machine, scoot or motorcycle, no doubt! I think we just need a break from time to time from anything. I am ready for a vacation where I do nothing but walk on a beach and float in a pool when I'm not napping or reading! Scoot on, Sista!

    6. I hear ya! Beach, sand and chillaxin' . The commute is ok most days, but after awhile it gets to you because you are slogging through everything. Riding in traffic can be pretty daunting at times particularly with big trucks.

  4. First I have to say that picture is so cute. It keeps distracting me.

I too can get in a funk sometimes. I rode yesterday but had the opportunity to ride today and chose not too. Just didn't feel like it.

I think it is good that you listen to the funk. If your head is not in it, you are prudent not to ride as that is when bad things (rider errors) can happen.

It'll pass, you just wait. You'll wake up raring to go and no one will be able to stop you from riding that day.

    1. My head being "not in it" is definitely why I won't "saddle up" and ride anyway. That's for sure. For me, one lapse of awareness can spell disaster!

Yeah, too many projects, a bit of a GI bug, in need of a respite from a new job's frenzy...I'm thinking "beach" and "get away" right now!

Puppy is cute, isn't she? Not mine...LOL

  6. It is difficult for me to transition from one ride to another. Some folks love riding other scoots and bikes. Me? Not so much. I like my "old shoe". I noticed in a comment you mentioned "buyer's remorse". I still miss my little blue scoot sometimes. Of course, I don't miss it on the hill by Washington University, or here, or there. In all those places now I would miss my Symba. I really hope to keep the Symba when I move to a ride that once again will expand my riding world. Grieving just isn't any fun for me...never was, but even less now.

    1. It is a "grieving thing", isn't it? It truly is something I feel.

  7. I've been aware of that grieving sensation coming my way should I let go of my Metro. I may be compromised in my speed, but anyone who wants to go over 40 can pass me. I'm content.

  8. I hear that! If you are happy, keep your Met!

This Elite goes top 53, my Ruck went top 43. Not much of a difference when you still have to get over on the shoulder on 45mph roads. I am a back road rider, slow speed, stop and smell the roses. That's how I ride and always will. I have no desire to ride among cars at fast speeds.

My Ruckus was fun and I miss it. I had to "get that itch" out of my system for a bigger scooter and I did. Now I have to figure out what to do next: have two or sell the Elite to get another Ruckus!

The Scooter Gods will lead me on the right path....:=)
