Get Ready! Cicadas Coming!!!!

If snow in April wasn't enough, Mother Nature is about to toss us another stale cookie!

The 17 year cicadas are coming to a neighborhood near you if you are on the east coast of the United States!

UGH!

I have so many memories of the last two visits of these noisy buggers. None of them pleasant!

Deafening, shrill screeching in the trees all around the apartment, bike trail, work place, park, you name it!

Giant ass cicadas jumping on my head, shoulders, and flying into my face while walking, riding the bike, and soon the scooter!

They're coming again and all I gotta say is "whoop-dee-doo"!

  1. I remember those. I grew up with them and had them around most of my life. I actually love the sound.

However, I remember that once-every-so-many-years swarm and it was HORRIBLE! They would fly into your face, into your clothing, your cars, your house, everything! And deafening! Not good. Sorry you have to live with that for now.

I will always love that sound, but not this huge swarm!

    1. The first time I ever experienced them I was teaching English in a Catholic school in Cincinnati. We had no screens in the windows and no a/c.

They flew in through the windows and were swarming in the room while I was "trying" to teach! LOL

I'll never forget this one student-she would drape them on her shirt collar and make a necklace!

They stayed right where they were placed just trilled away!

      It was SO funny!

  2. I shall consider myself lucky to have never experienced them before. I did hear on the news they were coming.

Just think of the stories you'll have to tell.

    1. Well I am not sure exactly where on the east coast they will emerge. I am hoping we will be spared the invasion.

  3. We have them here in MN, but as far as I know, we've not had these big invasions. I did experience an infestation the first time I was picking up our middle daughter in Cleveland. It was almost overwhelming and I wasn't out in the woods, only the motel parking lot.

    1. Yeah, if you're anywhere where there are trees the sound is pretty loud once they get their "sexy" going! LOL

  4. Something must have eaten my earlier comment.

I do love the sound of those cicadas. Deep, humid summer memories. But the invasion is horrible. Truly awful.

  5. I like those late summer sounds of cicadas too. But these "super cicadas"?

    Not so much!
