Scraps

These flowers, so beautiful, were never meant to be thrown together in this coffee mug.

They are scraps.

Scraps from flower orders that I have carried out across the city since the week before Mother's Day.

One fell here, one fell there, all landed up in my car floor board or ledge or back seat.

Never meant to last this long in this rag tag condition.

Yet here they are.

Scraps, remnants of someone's birthday wish, Mother's Day tribute, hospital cheer, or funeral good-bye.

All carried love, compassion, joy, congratulations, or some such recognition from one person to another.

Together they form an experience of the joyous gift of love.

All written in flowers.

  1. That's nice.

Truly, flowers do speak to us. They all are symbolic and offer a variety of gestures, but the universal understanding of flowers is something of special value.

    1. And hopefully a language that will endure through the next generations.

Most of our clients seem to be older adults.

      The senders and the receivers.

I wonder about the future of the flower business.

  2. Deb,
I've seen and been part of many collections. This one just about outshines them all and won't be forgotten.

    1. Me too!

Not hunting anymore for now. I will ride the Met and I am keeping pretty busy at work.

Once I have the appropriate amount of funds available I will take up the hunt again. Something nicer, the best choice not a compromise.
